Angel’s Envy has built a reputation on finished whiskeys since its launch in 2010. One of its founder’s, Wes Henderson, has since moved on to launch True Story Whiskey. However, the Louisville-based distillery shows no sign of slowing down. One thing that hasn’t changed is the anticipation on Angel’s Envy Cask Strength release. Throw on one of your favorite bourbon t shirts, pour your go-to daily sipper, and let’s dive into our Angel’s Envy Cask Strength 2024 review.

Review & Tasting Notes
The Angel’s Envy brand launched in 2010 and their cask strength program made its debut by 2011. Needless to say, it’s been a hit ever since! Last year they doubled-down on their success and added a Cask Strength Rye to the lineup.
Each year, barrels are hand selected for an extended period of finishing to achieve their desired results. However, this year they’ve thrown a couple of new wrinkles in the mix. One being the additional Tawny Port Wine finish on top of their standard Ruby Port Wine. The 2024 Angel’s Envy Cask Strength release also features the Solera Method, a first at the Louisville distillery. The Solera Method produces a continuous aging process that creates a more consistent product and adds depth.
Based on the hype of previous releases however, fans were already impressed with the full proof product. We’re certainly included in that whisky fandom! The fancy wooden box it comes in is just a bonus. Although, we haven’t came up with a good use for it yet after the exciting unboxing.
As for the whiskey itself, it is officially a Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels. Over the years the full proof offering has ranged from 118.2 proof to 127.9 proof. This bottle sits near the bottom at 118.8, becoming the second-lowest proofing to date. We’re okay with that though, not everything has to be a hazmat bottle. Now let’s get into the specs on this bottle release.
Color
Burnished Amber
Nose
Caramelized notes of brown sugar and butterscotch open up into stone fruit, pear, and spice.
Palate
Crisp apple crumble and buttery pie crust balance darker notes of chocolate, oak, and cinnamon honey. Both nutty and floral.
Finish
Pleasant and long. Oak tannins mingle with rich port and bright fruits to deliver a sweet and spiced finale.
Barrel
Finished in Ruby Port and Tawny Port casks.

Verdict
Angel’s Envy Cask Strength has been a hit since it launched in 2011. The entire brand stormed onto the scene, undeniably pushing the finished bourbon niche to new heights. While we can all debate the technicalities of where the style deserves to be categorized, there’s no question that this annual release is a bottle to keep on your radar.
The price point will certainly draw some criticism, but the entire industry is pushing more in the super premium category. Still, that’s too much to swallow for some people, especially if you’re looking at secondary pricing. Nonetheless, those aforementioned “people” are not us. If we saw this bottle for retail, it’s getting added to our collection.
